Tips 007: Dealing with depression

WELCOME TO THE 7TH EPISODE OF TIP’S WITH MAY.

WHEN YOU ARE DEPRESSED, YOU DON’T WANT TO BE BOTHERED BY ANYONE AND THE WORST THING YOU CAN DO IS ISOLATE YOURSELF. DEPRESSION IS A MOOD THAT CAN AFFECT YOUR THOUGHTS, BEHAVIOUR, FEELINGS AND SENSE OF WELL-BEING.

PEOPLE WITH THIS MOOD CAN FEEL; SAD, ANXIOUS, EMPTY, HOPELESS, HELPLESS, GUILTY, DIS-COURAGED ETC DEPRESSION IS A COMMON OF MENTAL ILLNESS. ACCORDING TO RESEARCH, NEARLY 20% OR MORE PEOPLE WILL EXPERIENCE DEPRESSION IN THEIR LIFES.

DEPRESSION IS CAUSED BY VARIOUS FACTOTS SUCH AS;

  • DRUGS (ABUSE OF DRUGS)
  • TRAUMATIC CHILDHOOD (SEXUAL /PSHOLOGICAL ABUSE, UNHEALTHY LIFESTYLE ETC)
  • PERSONAL LIFE EVENTS (TRAGIC AND STRESSFULL OCCURANCES)
  • GENETICS 

 

DEPRESSION HAS A WAY OF TRANSFORMING A PERSON, ONE MINUTE YOU ARE HAPPY AND EXCITED AND THE NEXT YOU ARE SAD AND FEELING HOPELESS, YOU START TO FEEL LIKE A

FAILURE, THE FEELING OF BEING INSUFFICIENT. TRY CHECKING UP ON THE PEOPLE AROUND YOU, OFTENTIMES, MOST PEOPLE WHO SEEM HAPPY OR STRONG ARE RARLY ASKED HOW THEY ARE DOING BECAUSE PEOPELE ASSUME THAT THEY ARE PERFECT BUT SOMETIMES, THE PERSON SMILING NEXT TO YOU COULD BE BATTLING WITH DEPRESSION SLILENTLY. SOME SYMTOMS OF DEPRESSION INCLUDES; WEIGHT LOSS, INSOMINA, LOSS OF ENERGY ETC

 

IN ORDER TO DEAL WITH DEPRESSION, YOU HAVE TO CONSIDER THE FOLLOWINGS:

  • FIRST THINGS FIRST, TALK TO SOMEONE. YOU COULD TALK TO FRIEND OR A PROFESIONAL COUNSELOR, THERAPIST OR PSYCHOLOGIST. A PROBLEM SHARED IS A PROBLEM HALF SOLVES. (COGINTIVE BEHAVIOURAL THERAPHY AND INTERPERSONAL PSYCHOTHERAPY ARE THE MAJOR THERAPIES USED FOR DEPRRSSION AS WELL AS HAVING A SIT DOWN TALK WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY)
  • DO NOT PRETEND, ACCEPT THAT EVERYTHING IS NOT OKAY BECAUSE YOU CAN FOOL EVERYONE ELSE, BUT YOU CANNOT FULL YOURSELF. ACCEPT THAT YOU NEED HELP AND TAKE IT, BE COURAGOUS
  • GO FOR A WALK AND EXERCISE. IT RELEASES ENDORPHINS AND UPLIFT ONES MOOD INSTANTLY.  GIVE YOUR SELF TIME TO RELAX MENTALLY. GO OUTSIDE AND EXERCISE LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT.
  • FEEL THE WARM SUN. DID YOU KNOW THAT VITAMIN D CAN HELP T LOWER DEPRESS? WELL, NOW YOU KNOW.
  • READ BOOKS THAT CAN HELP UPLIFT YOUR MOOD.
  • LEARN TO SLIENCE THE VOICES THAT SAYS YOU ARE NOT GOOD ENOUGH.
  • BE GOOD TO YOURSELF, WHAT YOU F EEL IS REAL AND YOU MATTER. LEARN TO GIVE YOURSELF A BREAK AND BE PATIENT WITH YOURSELF, WE ALL HAVE TOUGH TIMES.
  • KNOW THAT YOU ARE LOVED, YOU ARE SPECIAL AND EVERY THING IS GOING TO BE OKAY.

 

ITS SO MUCH BETTER TO MOVE FORWARD THAN TO STAY STOCK. ITS POSSIBLE THAT THE PEOPLE AROUND YOU CAN MAKE MATTER WORSE, SOME MIGHT NOT TRULY UNDERSTAND THE LEVEL OF PAIN YOU ARE GOING TO AND IT CAN BE FRUSTRATING BUT DON’T FORGET THAT YOU ARE NOT ALONE AND YOU WILL NEVER BE ALONE.

EVERYONE FROM TIME TO TIME FEELS DOWN AND ITS COMPLETELY OKAY. DEPRESSION IS NOT A CHEMICAL DISORDER, IT WOULD INTEREST YOU TO KNOW THAT ONE OUT OF A FAMILY OF 6 OR MORE HAS UNDERGONE DEPRESSION. ITS ALSO POSSIBLE TO BE DEPRESSED AND NOT UNDERSTAND OUR FEELINGS.

 

DEPRESSION IS REAL, LINE UP THOSE PROBLEMS AND COMFRONT THEM. YOU ARE PRECIOUS, LIFE IS NOT ALWAYS A BED OF ROSES BUT ITS WORTH LIVING.
