Affiliate Marketing 101

Course By: Paul Chinedum Edison

what is Affiliate Marketing?

Affiliate marketing is a (Business model) that allows an affiliate to earn a commission by
marketing the products of another person or company. The affiliate simply gains access
to a product they enjoy, then promotes it and earns a percentage of the profit from
each sale, ranging from 40-70% commission.
These sales are tracked via the affiliate’s unique link from one website to another,
allowing the product owner, vendor, or company to identify the specific affiliate who
made the sale.

Affiliate marketing is an excellent way to increase sales and generate substantial online
revenue. It is extremely advantageous to both brands and marketers. This has reduced
traditional marketing while increasing internet marketing over time.

The world has transformed into a connected economy. This revolution has made it
easier for business owners to connect with customers from the comfort of their homes
by using their smartphone.

According to statistics, affiliate marketing worldwide increased from $35.2 billion in
2016 to 68.7 billion in 2022, implying that there is plenty of room for those who want to
get into this amazing internet business.

How Does Affiliate Marketing Work?

There are three parties involved in order for affiliate marketing to become a reality:

  1. Seller and product creator
  2. The affiliate or advertiser
  3. The consumer.

Seller and product creators.
The seller, whether a sole proprietor or a large corporation, a vendor, merchant, or
product creator. The product could be physical or digital, for example, a digital
course on how to make money online in 2023. The seller is not required to actively
participate in the marketing, but they may also be the advertiser and profit from the
revenue sharing associated with affiliate marketing.

The affiliate or publisher.
The affiliate can be an individual (Me) or a company (DIGITSTEM) that markets the
seller’s product to potential customers in an appealing manner. In other words, the
affiliate promotes the product in order to persuade consumers that it is valuable or
beneficial to them and persuade them to buy it. If the consumer purchases the
product, the affiliate receives 40-70% of the revenue. It is critical that affiliates target
a specific audience and market to them in a way that is consistent with their
interests. This helps the affiliate attract consumers who are most likely to act on the
promotion by creating a defined niche or personal brand.

The Consumer.
Without a doubt, sales are required for the affiliate system to function, and the
consumer or customer is the one who makes them happen.
The affiliate will market the product/service to consumers via the appropriate
channels, such as social media, a blog, or a YouTube video, and if the consumer
finds the product valuable or beneficial, they can follow the affiliate link and
checkout on the merchant’s website. If the customer purchases the item, the affiliate
receives 40-70% of the revenue generated.
However, keep in mind that your consumer must be informed that you, the affiliate,
will be paid a commission on the sale of the goods. This is a fantastic indicator of
sincerity and honesty, and it contributes to the development of trust and customer
relationships between an affiliate and a consumer.
